Sprayed edges are page edges printed in colour, from a single shade that matches the cover to intricate multi-coloured patterns. They appear mostly on new releases and special editions, and now on some paperbacks. Decorating edges is not new: publishers have long gilded book edges with gold or paint.
For new readers
