Romantasy Books 2027: 11 Sequels and When Each One Lands
If you start one series now, make it Fae & Alchemy: two books out, a finale dated September 7, 2027, and 319 days to read them.

The first of the romantasy books 2027 we can date is A Court of Forgotten Melody, out January 12, 2027, just 77 days after book 6. Nine more sequels in the series we track have a US date from a publisher, and a tenth has a season from the authors' own site.
That's the list for the series we track, and it's a list of sequels on purpose. We only print a date we could read on a publisher page or the author's site this week (we checked them all on October 21, 2026). Retailer listings and fan calendars of romantasy release dates 2027 don't count, which is why one 611-point Reddit favourite is missing from the table and gets its own note further down.
Romantasy books 2027, by date
US release dates, in order. "Book 1 heat" is our 0 to 5 placement for the first book in the series, from the note named in the book's record, so you know what you're signing up for before you start catching up.
| # | 2027 book | Series, number | US date | Date from | Book 1 heat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A Court of Forgotten Melody | A Court of Thorns and Roses, 7 | Jan 12 | Bloomsbury; Maas's site | 2, from Common Sense Media |
| 2 | Emily Wilde's History of Dark Faerie | Emily Wilde, 4 | Jan 19 | Penguin Random House | Not rated |
| 3 | The Blade and the Last Sacrifice | The Broken Accords, 2 | Feb 16 | Bloomsbury | 5, from Publishers Weekly |
| 4 | We Who Will Rise | Empire of Blood, 2 | Mar 16 | HarperCollins | Not rated |
| 5 | The Saint of Silence | Weavingshaw, 2 | Apr 6 | Penguin Random House | Not rated |
| 6 | Stormside | Starside, 2 | Apr 20 | HarperCollins | Not rated |
| 7 | Ruin Bound | The Wolves of Ruin, 3 (finale) | Jul 27 | Hachette | 3, from Sable Sorensen's site |
| 8 | Dark Descent | The Crimson Moth, 3 | Aug 3 | Macmillan | 3, from Common Sense Media |
| 9 | Fae & Alchemy Book 3 | Fae & Alchemy, 3 (finale) | Sep 7 | Hachette | 4, from Common Sense Media |
| 10 | Moonsinger | Crown of Hearts & Chaos, 3 | Nov 2 | King's Hollow, via Simon & Schuster | Not rated |
| 11 | Maggie the Undying book 2 | Maggie the Undying, 2 | Second half of 2027 | Ilona Andrews' site | Not rated |
"Not rated" means our record for that book 1 has no sex note we can place yet (we use Common Sense Media, Publishers Weekly, or the author's or publisher's own content note), so the cell gets no number rather than a guess.
Book 1 of the Crimson Moth, Heartless Hunter, is sold as YA, and it still reaches a 3: "The main characters have sex, described in some detail," in Common Sense Media's words. Macmillan lists Dark Descent at "Age Range 13-18". Read that note before you hand the series to a 13-year-old.
The longest wait, and the shortest
We measured each 2027 book against the US date of the book before it. The spread is silly.

At the short end, Sarah J. Maas's site lists A Court of Splintered Harmony "OUT OCT 27TH 2026" and A Court of Forgotten Melody "OUT JAN 12TH 2027". That's 77 days. Bloomsbury calls the pair "The Valkyrie Cycle, Movements II & III" and gives book 7 alone 896 pages. Seventy-seven days for 896 pages. Pace yourself. Our ACOTAR book 6 guide covers what's confirmed about the first half.
At the long end:
- Dark Descent comes 896 days after Rebel Witch (February 18, 2025).
- Emily Wilde's fourth book comes 707 days after the third (February 11, 2025).
- Fae & Alchemy Book 3 comes 658 days after Brimstone (November 18, 2025).
Every other dated 2027 book on the list lands between 364 and 448 days after its predecessor. The one closest to a year is Moonsinger: Simon & Schuster lists Lightwing, book 2 of Crown of Hearts & Chaos, for November 3, 2026 and Moonsinger for November 2, 2027, 364 days later and 560 pages long.
There's one more number worth a raised eyebrow. Penguin Random House's page for The Saint of Silence calls it "the second book" of a "slow-burn gothic fantasy romance trilogy", while the series header on the same page reads "Book 2 of 2: The Weavingshaw Trilogy". It's a trilogy. The counter just hasn't heard about book 3.
Two finales have a date in print
If you only start series you can finish, 2027 has two for you.
Hachette calls Ruin Bound "The epic conclusion" to the "bestselling Wolves of Ruin trilogy", out July 27, 2027 at 608 pages for the special edition. Book 1, Dire Bound, sits at 3 on our scale, from Sorensen's own warning: "explicit sexual content including elements of dubcon". That second half of the note is the catch, and it's on her site for a reason.
Fae & Alchemy closes on September 7, 2027. Hachette's listing for the deluxe edition says the series "that began with Quicksilver and continued in Brimstone concludes with the ultimate explosive mixture of Fae & Alchemy", at 624 pages. Both earlier books are a 4 here; for Brimstone, Common Sense Media's note reads "Adults engage in lengthy sessions of oral and vaginal sex, with detailed descriptions." If you need more of that before September, our books like Quicksilver list gives each read-alike a heat level.

The other endings we could source are still waiting on a print date:
- Seven and the Swift: Devney Perry's page calls it "The final story in the Shield of Sparrows trilogy" and gives no day. One reader in r/Romantasy already has it queued next to two dated 2027 books (more on that thread below).
- The Throne of Bone and Ash: Armentrout told Publishers Weekly in October 2026 that it's "the final book in the main Poppy and Cas story".
- Lightlark book 5, which follows a Crowntide that Aster called "the second to last book".
- Crowns of Nyaxia book 6, which Broadbent calls "the last book in the Bloodborn Duet". That closes the duet; her page doesn't say it ends Crowns of Nyaxia.
The near miss is Python, which Simon & Schuster sells as the "conclusion to The Heart Duology" by H. M. Wolfe. Its page says September 21, 2027, but the only edition listed is an audio download. Until a print edition has a page, it stays out of the table.
Dated only by a season
Maggie the Undying book 2 has no day, and its title is still a game of hangman. Ilona Andrews' release schedule lists it as "THIS REDACTED WILL NOT REDACTED ME", gives it a window, "Second Half of 2027", and calls it the "Second novel in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Maggie the Undying series".

We've put it in the table because the date comes from the authors, but we've written it as they did: a half-year, not a month. Our This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me book 2 page has the rest of what's known.
The big series missing from romantasy books 2027 (so far)
These are big series with a next book on the way, and the latest word on each stops short of a day. The quotes below are the most recent we could source, with the year they were said.
| Series | Next book | Latest sourced word |
|---|---|---|
| The Empyrean | Book 4, untitled | Marie Claire (updated July 2026): "As for books four and five, their names and release dates are still unknown." |
| Crescent City | Book 4, untitled | Maas to TODAY (January 2024): "You will have to wait a bit" |
| Crowns of Nyaxia | Book 6, untitled | Broadbent's reading order: "The sixth book in the main Crowns of Nyaxia series and the last book in the Bloodborn Duet" |
| Lightlark | Book 5, untitled | Woman's World (June 2026): Aster called Crowntide "the second to last book in the Lightlark series" |
| Blood and Ash | The Throne of Bone and Ash | Armentrout to Publishers Weekly (October 2026): "That's it, the final book in the main Poppy and Cas story" |
| Shield of Sparrows | Seven and the Swift | Perry's site: "The final story in the Shield of Sparrows trilogy" |
A TODAY quote from January 2024 is not a 2027 promise, so don't read one into it. If you're new to Yarros's dragons, the Empyrean reading order has the books that are out.
The one missing book: Hedgewitch
Brigitte Knightley's Hedgewitch has the reader numbers: a 611-point announcement post in r/fantasyromance, "New release 'Hedgewitch' by Brigitte Knightley coming 2027", that opened with "Release date August 17th 2027". We've only found that day on the post and on retailer pages, so it waits outside the table for a publisher page. If the date holds, it lands two weeks after Dark Descent.
What readers have queued
In r/Romantasy's "What are everyone's fantasy romance preorders for the rest of 2026 + 2027?" (September 29, 2026), u/bellegi (5 points) listed their queue: both new ACOTAR books, Vine of Hearts, "Emily Wilde's History of Dark Faerie by Heather Fawcett" and "Seven and the Swift by Devney Perry". Four of those have a date. Seven and the Swift doesn't, which makes it a brave one to queue.
The top reply in that thread shows where this list stops. u/quibily (11 points) opened with "The ones that have release dates announced:" and ran from Vasmora in October to Embers of Chaos in May, and not one of those four books comes from a series we track. If your series isn't in our table, it may simply not be one of ours yet, so check its publisher's page before you assume there's no date.
Our take: what we'd do
Start Fae & Alchemy now if you want one finished series out of 2027. Quicksilver and Brimstone are out, the finale has a September 7 date, and that's 319 days from October 23. The catch is heat: both books sit at 4 on our scale, so it's not a gentle run-up.
If you're an ACOTAR reader, block out January. Book 6 on October 27 and an 896-page book 7 on January 12 is a lot of Maas in 77 days, and our ACOTAR reading order is the place to sort out the earlier books first.
And if you're holding out for Empyrean 4 or Crescent City 4, there's nothing to plan around yet. We'd rather print "no date" than a month someone guessed.
