ACOTAR Book 6: What's Confirmed, What Isn't, What to Read

Finish A Court of Silver Flames before October 27 and plan for January 12 too: book 6 opens a four-part story, and only three parts have dates.

ACOTAR book 6 is A Court of Splintered Harmony, out October 27, 2026 in the US and the UK, and it isn't built to finish anything. The publisher sells it as "The Valkyrie Cycle, Movement I". Book 7, A Court of Forgotten Melody, follows on January 12, 2027 as Movements II and III, and Sarah J. Maas has described a fourth part that has no date yet.

Add those up and it's 1,248 listed pages across two hardbacks, 77 days apart, with the ending still out of sight. Eleven days before release, book 6's Goodreads page already showed a 4.45 average from 1,464 ratings on October 16, plus 425,146 people who want to read it. That's a lot of stars for a book nobody can buy yet.

Below is what's confirmed and by whom, what's only reported, what nobody has announced, and what to read in the time left. Our ACOTAR series page keeps the book list and dates in one place.

ACOTAR book 6, confirmed and not

We checked every row against the publisher's US and UK store pages, Maas's own site and the reporting linked below on October 16, 2026. "Confirmed" means a publisher or author page says it. "Reported" means a major outlet credits it to the publisher's social posts, which we didn't open ourselves.

The publisher's blurb is short on plot. Koschei, "bound to a mountain lake for millennia", is a threat again, and the Night Court is "reeling from recent betrayals and revealed truths." The tagline is "What was broken will be remade." Book 7's answers it: "What was lost will be reclaimed."

Why book 6 is only Movement I

Maas explained the split on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy in March. Business Insider's explainer, updated October 9, quotes her: part one ran to 400 pages at one point, and she put the problem this way: "What if it took me more than a thousand pages to tell the story that needed to be told…" The answer was one story in four parts: part one on October 27, parts two and three bound together on January 12, and part four not yet written or dated.

Then comes the line that matters if you're expecting a finale. "It's meant to be read, ideally, as one massive, massive story as opposed to in a trilogy," she said. "It's not a trilogy. Like, arcs aren't wrapped up." That's the author telling you not to expect closure on release day.

One page count needs a flag. In September, RUSSH reported that the Australian listing put book 7 at 928 pages. The Australian product page now says 896, matching the US hardback, so 896 is the figure we use.

The episode where Maas gave the dates is on Call Her Daddy's YouTube channel, and her own news post embeds it.

Readers have done the same math. In an October 4 r/acotar thread asking whether book 6 is "going to give us answers", u/HobbitSami (84 points) replied "1 answer, 6 questions". u/Flimsy-Brick-9426 (22 points) pushed back: "Do you guys exclusivly read 500+ books?? 320 pages is a normal sized book." (The listed count is 352, which helps that side a little.) Of the ten highest-voted answers when we checked on October 16, seven expected more questions than answers and three expected at least some answers. We side with the seven: Maas says the arcs aren't wrapped up across the cycle, and book 6 is only its opening part.

What's still not announced

Who narrates is the big open question. In March, the Los Angeles Times reported that Maas didn't say "whose point of view the stories will follow", only that the character's perspective was "one of the surprising things" for her while writing. The publisher's teasers have since filled in one name. The first, posted September 17 according to Business Insider, reads "Lucien's heart thundered, throat drying out." That puts Lucien on the page as a viewpoint for at least part of the book. Neither the store pages nor Maas's site lists anyone else.

Spice is open too. There's no Common Sense Media review or Publishers Weekly note on book 6's sex content yet, so its FaeShelf book page says Not rated. We'd rather print that than guess from the cover or from book 5, and we'll fill it in when a named review exists.

Then there's part four. The October update of that Business Insider piece still says Maas "has yet to write or give a publication date for part four". No title, no year. Formats are uneven too: the US store lists only the hardback and ebook for book 6, while the Australian store already lists book 7 as a paperback, at AU$39.99.

Preorder ACOTAR book 6 or wait?

In the US, the list price is $32 for the hardback and $22.40 for the ebook; in the UK, it's £25 and £17.50. The publisher's own store carries one note on its US and UK pages for book 6: "To receive ACOTAR 6 in October 2026, please order ACOTAR 7 separately." It doesn't say why. If you're buying both there, the safe reading is two separate orders.

There's a catch inside those 352 pages if the reported bonus chapters hold. Business Insider says the three chapters (Feyre and Rhysand, Cassian and Nesta, Azriel at the winter solstice) were "previously published in specific editions" and will be in all copies. If you own those editions, some of book 6 is a reread. If you don't, you can stop hunting for them.

In an October 7 r/acotar thread asking who isn't preordering, the top reply, from u/sherydewinter (291 points), was "I'm not paying for a physical book until paperback is out. I will read it digitally." u/Kansasgrl968 (23 points) went the library route: "I am number 213 at my local library. I'm practicing patience."

Waiting has one real cost, and it's spoilers. More than twenty r/acotar threads with "leak", "leaks" or "leaked" in the title went up on October 13 to 15, about two weeks before release. We don't use leaks for anything on this page. If you're deep in a library queue, mute the title until your copy arrives.

What to read before ACOTAR book 6

Read all five books in publication order first, ending with book 5, the one that sets up the Valkyrie.

If you only reread one, make it A Court of Silver Flames. The new subtitle names the Valkyrie, and Business Insider points out they were introduced in that book, when Nesta brought the legendary all-female fighting squad back to life. It's also where the series switched from Feyre's point of view to Nesta's. The cost is length: 768 pages in its first edition, or about 70 a day if you start today and want it done by release day.

Our take: what we'd do before October 27

We'd treat October 27 as the start of a three-month read. Finish Silver Flames now. Preorder book 6 only if you'll want book 7 the moment it lands on January 12, because Maas has said the arcs stay open. Skip release day if you only start finished stories: wait for January and read Movements I to III back to back, knowing Movement IV still has no date. The weak spot in this page is time. "Confirmed" here means the store pages on the day we checked, and the two "reported" rows rest on posts we only know secondhand. After release, the spice and narrator rows are the first we'll update.

Corrections

  • Oct 16, 2026: the leak count now covers every r/acotar thread with "leak", "leaks" or "leaked" in the title on October 13 to 15 (more than twenty, not five). Business Insider's update is dated October 9, not October 10. Our side in the reader split now rests on what Maas said, that the arcs aren't wrapped up across the cycle; she didn't say how many answers book 6 gives. The price row says list price, and the part four row says date only, since Business Insider doesn't mention a title.
